In September 2024 the Department for Education launched a consultation on the curriculum asking for students, parents, teachers, employers, leaders and experts to share their thoughts on the current model and what a future curriculum could look like. The Historical Association is preparing a response and we wanted to ask you for your help in enabling your students to give their feedback to us on their thoughts about the History curriculum. We can then ensure that our response not only includes views from teachers but also from the young people we teach.
This is a chance to celebrate the things that have worked well at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level, whilst addressing the areas that we would like to change and what a potential change could look like. Evidence will be key in presenting a variety of options to the Department of Education and so the more data we have the better.
To this end, we would like to ask you to encourage your students to complete a Microsoft Form survey to summarise their views on the History Curriculum. One of the aims of the Historical Association is to ensure young voices are heard and this is an ideal way for your students to feedback to the Historical Association and to the government about what they think is good and what needs improving in History in school. The DfE consultation ends on the 22nd November 2024 and to enable the Historical Association to include evidence from young people, we need the survey completed by Wednesday 13th November.
To complete the survey, students can use the QR code below and please encourage them to give as much evidence as they can. Use it with your own classes, share it with the department and please share it with the wider community. This is a chance for you and your students to shape the future of History curriculum in schools.
